Being an Internal Auditor in Africa: Babirye’s Story

Meet the Auditor: Babirye Luzuka

As we celebrate Internal Audit Awareness Month, it is crucial to shine some light on the experience of being an internal auditor in Africa. A truly unique space, auditors in Africa are instrumental in helping organizations transform governance, risk, and assurance through expertise, innovation, and critical thinking.

Babirye, a Client Partner at Revival, gives insight into internal auditor in Africa in this article.

For this edition, we spoke to Babirye Luzuka, Client Partner at Revival Holdings, about her journey as an internal auditor in Africa in the GRC technology space, the evolving role of auditors, and why the “auditor mindset” never truly switches off.

Tell us about your role at Revival Holdings.

I am a Client Partner at Revival Holdings, where I work closely with organizations in the African region to support their GRC needs through Diligent software solutions.

My responsibilities include managing client relationships, understanding and addressing client challenges, and driving product adoption.

Tell us about yourself and your career path — what brought you to Revival?

I spent 11 years in Internal Audit, gaining strong exposure to governance, risk management, controls, and business operations across diverse industries.

After many years in Internal Audit, I was ready for a new challenge and an opportunity to grow within the GRC technology space.

What skills are most important for modern auditors?

Modern auditors need strong analytical thinking, communication skills, adaptability, and professional scepticism.

With the rapid growth of technology and AI, auditors also need to be comfortable using data analytics and understanding digital risks.

What’s the most auditor thing about you outside of work?

“I naturally notice when things are out of place or don’t make sense – whether it’s spotting inconsistencies in a story, organizing systems at home, or mentally calculating whether something is actually ‘worth the price.’ The auditor mindset never really switches off.”

“The auditor mindset never really switches off”

– Babirye Luzuka, Client Partner at Revival

What phrase does every auditor hear weekly?

“Just give us until COB, we’re still pulling the supporting documents.”

Complete the phrase: “You know you’re an auditor when…”

“…you notice missing controls in everyday life.”

As Internal Audit Awareness Month continues, stories like Babirye’s highlight how the profession is evolving beyond traditional auditing into technology, analytics, and strategic governance support.

At Revival Holdings we’re proud to celebrate the professionals whose curiosity, critical thinking, and adaptability continue to strengthen governance across organizations throughout Africa.
